My name is Ashley Galdos, I am 15 years old, and I am from a very rural town called Tres Pinos in California. I am currently a sophomore at San Benito High School. I've been involved in junior and high school rodeo since 6th grade. Some of my interests include riding horses, spending time with my family, and fulfilling my dreams of helping others and my life goal is making sure no child goes to bed hungry.
At the spur of the moment, I was asked to run for District 4 Rodeo Queen by my rodeo teammates who told me I have great leadership and speaking qualities. So, I decided a week before the contest to go for it and I was then selected as the District 4 High School Rodeo Queen. Since then I have put on a special needs rodeo for all ages which was an incredible turnout and touched my heart deeply.
Most recently as most of you have heard there have been tragic wild fires in California. The Lake Country fire has touched me personally because two of the District 2 rodeo families have been affected. Their ranches have been completely burned to the ground. Absolutely nothing was left. I learned of these fires on Monday and knew by Tuesday morning that I really needed to do something to help these families out. I got in contact with Miss San Benito County Rodeo Queen, Megan Ford, and we put our heads together and by Friday we were in front of the local Ace Hardware store collecting cash, gift cards, toiletries, clothing, non-perishable foods, etc. We were there for 6 hours and collected almost $1500 in cash and gift cards, 500 pounds of food and 1000 pounds of goods and toiletries. To top off our evening, we went to the high school football game where we collected almost $500 more from the generous folks attending the game. This brought our cash/gift card total to $2000.
That night Megan and I left in complete amazement. The following day we drove with Megan's parents 3 1/2 hours to deliver a horse trailer PACKED with all the things we collected from our generous community. I will never forget the images of these people’s reactions and facial expressions when we gave them everything we had collected. I don't think I can describe another feeling like the one I got that day.
More support is needed to help these fire victims get back on their feet. All of the funds rewarded through WorldRewardsYou will be going to helping these fire victims.
Thank you, Miss CHSRA District 4 Ashley Galdos
